(Mechanical Keyboard Keychron K2 Keychron K2 Reduced Model Review)

Today, I'm going to be reviewing the K2 model from Keycron, which was recently announced in Korea. As a designer and developer, I'm not very familiar with mechanical keyboards, so I'd like to write down my impressions from the perspective of a designer and developer. I'm sure that many professional reviews have already been published in other media, so I'm going to write this article with my personal impressions and video reviews.

White Backlit Models
I bought the white LED model instead of the RGB model because I thought it would be a bit tacky to have RGB colors shining brightly. I'm quite satisfied with the white backlight, but after using it, I feel a bit disappointed with the dull white backlight and wish I had bought it in RGB colors. If I had to buy it again, I would spend 10,000 won more and get the RGB model.

Where to Buy
I purchased it through the official website of Keycron Hong Kong. Recently, it has been officially released in Korea, but although it has the advantage of adding Korean engraved keycaps and fast delivery, the price is a bit expensive. On the Hong Kong official website, you can buy it for 90,000 won including shipping, especially when you first sign up, and the official website occasionally sends out 10% discount coupons via email. I don't know when I received one, but I checked my email inbox and found a discount coupon. I don't know exactly when they do this, but in my case, I added the product to my cart, filled in my shipping address, and left the final checkout unchecked, and a few days later, the coupon appeared and I was able to purchase it at a discounted price. However, it took a week or two to arrive, and the box was pretty banged up from the long trip. In addition, the one I received was slightly defective, with an OS change on the left side and an obviously malfunctioning power switch that was very stiff. Since it's direct from Hong Kong, exchanging/returning it was a huge hassle, so I'm just using it for now. If you're not willing to take that risk, I recommend buying from the official Korean website.

Feel and sound
I'm new to mechanical keyboards. I borrowed the keyboards of my fellow developers to experience the various axes and decide which one to choose, but I chose to purchase the chicron with a grind axis because I felt the most comfortable with it. Although I have little knowledge about it, I think it provides a very satisfying typing feel as someone who has been using ThinkPads for 4 years and MacBooks for 4 years. I'm not sure if it's a characteristic of mechanical keyboards, but for me, in the process of adjusting to this keyboard, I felt like I had to be more precise in my typing in order to avoid typos. I tend to be a bit disorganized with my right fingers, and this keyboard has really corrected me on when to use my fourth or fifth finger. It's a bit of a personal thing, so I'm not sure I'd call it a plus.

Layout and design very appropriate for an Apple keyboard
One of the best features of the Keycron is that it's one of the few mechanical keyboards that is oriented towards the key layout of an Apple keyboard, and as such, the function keys are arranged and engraved just like Apple's. In terms of usability, it gives a seamless user experience with Apple computers, and in terms of emotion, it seems to enhance the feeling of using a device optimized for Apple computers instead of living with a Windows keyboard. And in terms of design, you can feel some details that must have been touched by a dedicated hardware designer. Whereas other mechanical keyboards typically have a very engineer-designed feel to them, and no amount of glamorization can erase the clunky or clunky feel, this keyboard has its own modern, well-polished vibe for a keyboard dedicated to Apple computers.

Fatal flaw, height
Maybe it's because I'm used to Apple's Magic Keyboard and MacBook keyboards, but this keyboard is very tall for a mechanical keyboard. A palm rest (cradle?) for the keyboard is essential for prolonged use. This may not be the case for everyone, but it is for me, and I've read a lot of reviews from other users that echo my sentiments. I bought a faux leather one and have been using it, and I'm pretty happy with it. I'd like to see the next model come with a slightly lower profile, but for short periods of time, I don't find it too much of a strain on my wrists without it.

Slight drawback: Arrow keys and right shift key placement
As a tenkeyless keyboard, the 84-key layout is a bit unfamiliar to me, especially the smaller right shift key, which caused me to make a lot of typos at first, but now that I've gotten used to it, it's not a big deal. However, I wonder if it's too cumbersome, but I don't think it's a big disadvantage because it has the advantage of portability. However, if you're not used to the 84-key layout, it may take some getting used to.
